ADAPTIVE ROWING / MIDLANDS ROWING CLUB achieved a remarkable milestone in South Africa's rowing history in April this year; the inclusion for the very first time of adaptive specific events at the South African Rowing Championships.
From the establishment of the sport in South Africa in 2006, where a single crew competed in able-bodied events, it has grown to the point where fourteen disabled athletes were able to take part in the eights race, twelve competed in the fours and quads race and two competed in the AS (Arms and Shoulders) class. For the first time at any regatta in South Africa every disability permitted in the rowing spectrum was represented. In the eights and fours there were amputees, visually impaired and Cerebral Palsy rowers and in the AS event we had both paraplegics as well as TA competitors. For Pietermaritzburg, Midlands Rowing Club, this was an especially proud day as for the first time ever they were part of the South African Championships, with their first race of the day taking GOLD against far more experienced crews. They also won a silver medal later in the days events.

THANK YOU

Dear Madam,
Thank you for your help and support - CANSA Shavathon Event
- 7th March 2009
Well. what else is there left to say to all the people who so diligently contributed to the success of the Province's CANSA Shavathon, but a big and bottom of my heart "THANK YOU!"
Words cannot express my appreciation and gratitude to the masses of people, both adults and children, who contributed in immeasurable ways, manners or forms, to make this event an astounding success for the Cancer Association of South Africa.
Ali, thank you for the support from you and your Shopping Centre, which in many ways, contributed to the success of the Event. Due to the effort of you and your team, the sum of R8567.00 was raised at your Shopping Centre.
"Shave or spray insolidarity with a cancer survivor" was the theme of this year's CANSA shavathon, which raised funds for CANSA's prevention programmes and patient care services. For more information, see www.shavathon.org.za or www.cansa.org.za Contact your nearest CANSA office or call CANSA toll free on 0800 226622.
CANSA remains the only non- profit organisation (NPO) in the country with the sole purpose of fighting cancer through a comprehensive approach.
I sincerely thank you for your support and look forward to our continued partnership in the future.
